90 rods straight up: you don't see that every day. It's pretty overgrown, including poison ivy, and I came out with several ticks (note it was peak tick season in a high tick year). There's not much happening at Azion, but it was neat to set eyes on a lake right next to the Basswood Highway that gets few visitors.

Beware the march to Azion! I was guiding a group and we stopped at a site nearby. This portage intrigued me, so I took a trip over. My map has it at 90 rods and gaining 120 ft of elevation in that time. There is no break. The trail continues upwards still upwards until Azion. Trail is overgrown in poison ivy and wild rose. Good hard fight to get to a lake that doesn't seem to have a reason to visit. If you want a worthy opponent of a portage though, this will do it.
