The portages on this stretch are not properly marked by anyone. McKenzie shows a portage by Hatchet that does not exist. Paddle Planner and McKenzie also do not mark the other portages properly. There are 5 short portages on this stretch, all short, some that can be partially "walked" pulling canoes, none that should probably be run unless you dont respect your canoe very much.

We skipped this one and waded the canoes through the creek. It was a fun adventure, although I doubt it saved us any time.

Depending how particular you are about your canoe??? This one can likely be lined without too much difficulty. Otherwise, the trail is about as easy as you could expect a portage of this length to be.

We ran our canoes through this set as did the poor people behind us in their kevlars. Why did anyone think it was a good idea to trust my lead? Hah! I winced every time I heard those beautiful kevlar canoes scrape a rock. Both groups made it through fine.

Hatchet creek is a delight. Every time I've been through, the water has been high enough to permit walking the canoes through all but one of the portages. Great on a hot day with youth that want to cool off.
