You absolutely want to take the long portage from Batch to McAlpine, not this and the other two on either side of it. This particular portage is a bleeding nightmare on the west side. Lake level has risen 3 or 4 feet in the past, perhaps 10 years? and now the landing on the west side is damn near impossible to deal with. Plus it's infested with Poison Ivy. Trust me - DON'T use this portage, you will regret it. On our way back to Nym we found the long portage FAR easier to deal with. It is very well used, easy to navigate, hardly any rocks or roots. So you can traverse it quickly even though it's longer than the other three combined - but you're not unloading and loading 3 times, just once. It is somewhat difficult to find coming at it from the McAlpine side. Don't give up, it IS there.
