This was a shockingly well-maintained portage. Not one downed tree to deal with and clear easy to follow trail... (Thank You Quetico Staff) Took me 7 hours to complete leap frogging with two carries. Biggest issue was swampy area near middle of the portage. There was no standing water but mud was impossible to walk through. So had to drag my canoe with gear/dog one foot at a time while walking the fringes of trail. There was no other way. Took me 3 hours to move 300 feet or so. I'm guessing this would be easier in wet/soak conditions if able to load and paddle through it. Otherwise, a surprisingly pleasant experience with good weather.

Thanks to some extensive portage crew at the bog in the center, this portage could actually be classified as easy if it weren't for its extreme length. Incredibly scenic with the biggest pines in all of Quetico - hundreds of them- scattered along most of its length. Take your time and enjoy. The other portage heading north of Cache is not nearly as scenic is much more difficult and boggy

Long portage with a few bogs in the middle, took very strong group 90 minutes to complete (single carry)
