I’d highly recommend avoiding this portage. My son went through last year but didn’t have the downed trees we had this year. We had to drop packs and cut multiple trees to get through in 5 to 6 areas at least. We took it to avoid a wind that was going to be from the wrong direction on Sturgeon for us that day. Total mistake! I’d go Burntside instead! We spent 3 hours and 15 minutes traversing this portage! I was tracking on my Garmin so could figure it out pretty close.

What portage???? Wasted 2 hours here. If you thought this portage was bad before, the 2021 fire burned the half on the other side of the creek. Once you get there the trail disappears in the burn. In 30 years I have never used a whistle till this portage. After you stomp through the marsh you will come to a T where it looks like you meet the original portage. Go left, in about 100 rods you will find the creek. I hope its fixed when you get there or you will have no choice but going back. I have never found a unpassable portage except for this one.

What Rumin8 said. We're still talking about this one seventeen years later.

*Warning* False Portage north of actual portage, heavily mistaken for actual portage. Possibly a better option than actual portage, though you may never get to Lonely. Arguably the worst portage in the park. From Yeh the portage starts in a swamp where logs have been cut and placed down for footing. Very slippery when wet (possibly always wet). When you get out of swamp portage drastically climbs then shortly thereafter plummets to the point you will need to remove gear and hand it down. In the middle of the portage there is a small stream you must go over (walk over). Then portage again climbs drastically. The only reason to take this portage is to claim you've bested it. But have you really?
