Definitely treat the mudpit on the south end with care, as you could easily go in up to the hip. Depending on water levels it can indeed be 20 rods or longer. Thankfully there is a makeshift balance beam of logs that works fairly well.

swamp on one end. Unless high water, you have to try and traverse the bog for about 20 rods... see photos

Tough landings again with some wet feet and slipping opportunities. The snow probably didn't help that. The scenery on Gasket is out of the world.It looks like an alpine lake. Truly a one-of-a-kind place that justifies the tough portaging.

All I have to say is watch out for the Muskeg on the south end of this portage. Tough to load the canoe without sinking up to your waist in the stuff
