The area around Shan Walshe, McNiece, and the northeast half of Kahshahpiwi burned in 2007. The shorelines of Shan Walshe and McNiece are almost entirely burned. Fisher maps show this portage slightly off. It basically follows the stream between the two lakes rather than to the west as shown on the map. Very large old-growth pines in this area.
