We had a little trouble finding the buck landing. It isn't at the rock pile directly across from the campsite. It is just a bit further west and you have to watch the tall grass to find it. Once on the portage, it had some elevation gain going to Western, boulders, and a muddy landing on the Western side.

This portage had a few trees fallen across it. The landings haven't gotten any less muddy over the years. In need of maintenance.

The portage starts on Buck right where the maps show it but, the tall shoreline grass does a good job of concealing the landing until you're right on top of it. The trail is a slightly overgrown twisting rock plagued path that skirts around a swamp to a muddy landing on Western Lake. Seemed a little longer than the stated distance.

The portage was muddy, swampy, and bug-infested. The landing on the Buck Lake side was very muddy. The Western landing was OK.
