good elevation gain. not hard, but long enough to get tired/winded/whatever. East end can be a swamp is water is high. which it was.

Long up and down portage. Muddy & buggy.

Overall not too bad of a portage, no crazy mud or elevation changes. The lowland trail on the Pine side was overgrown and a little rough on the bare legs, but otherwise good!

This was my first trip to the BWCA since I was 12 (over 30 years ago), and I went solo. After this portage I decided I really should have used a lighter canoe, packed less stuff, and put that less stuff in better packs. My boots and knee-high waterproof socks worked great, though, as there is a section that is a bit wet and swampy. I'm a relatively fit day hiker, but with the heavy load I was quite challenged, mainly by the length of it.
