Very steep start on the Crab side, with a slightly less steep end on the Clark side. In between, it's a nice hike through a forest still (in 2021) cleared of undergrowth from the fire (in 2016, per others). The thunderstorms of July 23-24 brought down trees as you approach clark.

This portage is incredibly cool from an ecological perspective after the 2016 fire. It burned out the undergrowth without killing the Red Pine in a bunch of the portage. Really cool scarring to check out. Both ends are steep. I was a bit worn after a couple trips through the Crab entry portage. Got through pretty good all the same.

The ends, especially the Crab Lake side, are steep climbs, but the rest of the portage is a beautiful walk along the ridge top through a pine plantation.
