Crumby sloped landings on both ends but, the Whack end was steeper. It's basically an up and over a noticeable hill.

Quick portage with a real pretty view to the north.

Went from Vern to Whack. Kind of a steep shelf as you come in. On a prior visit I did accidentally tip my mom in the lake (she was in the back) while pulling the canoe up onto the shelf. Lesson learned: pull up alongside and unload, then pull up on to the shelf. Sort of an up and over portage.

Preferred way to Homer Lake. Used the south portage (also visited Pipe), it is longer and harder. The east portage can be a bit wet but south portage should only be used from Pipe Lake.
