Water was high and flowing hard on both sides of the trail, I couldn't get close due to wind and current in my solo boat.

We didn't really have any trouble here. One of our groups slipped in and got pretty well soaked. Watch your footing I guess... But all in all, not a bad portage

There's a false/secondary portage that looks more established than the primary portage when approaching from the southeast side. It's not too long but it's definitely longer - maybe 60 rods - and a real beast because it gets very tight with post-fire jackpines and deadfall from the fire. This crappy portage *does* go through, but you're better off hugging closer to the rapids and finding the primary portage.
