Pretty significant portage in my opinion. Garmin watch said it was 0.99 miles...which would make it way more than 195 rods. I would trust the map more than my watch but it's still a somewhat challenging trek. Landing on Bald Eagle side is rocky as stated.

I was here during high water and didn't have any issues with either landing but, obviously I could easily see it being a problem once the waters recede. Surprisingly, there are several nice cedar trees along the way including a very nice "upland" specimen just off the trail on the south side. From Bald Eagle there is a long grinding climb with a healthy population of knobby boulders along much the way until you reach a large opening with a granite knob slab. There were also a few small "muddy" sections but these were all quite minor and the least of the worries. Shortly past that the trail begins it's decent to the river. It is steeper but much shorter.

Landings on both ends are pretty tough especially in low water. The River section is beautiful but again, mucky and rocky due to low water. Plan on wading through a bunch of muck to even get floating at the river end. Hilly and rocky and a decent workout.

Both landings are a bit of a challenge even when the water is high, a lot of zig zagging around submerged rocks. The muck is about a foot and a half deep on the east side. There was a tree down across the portage that had to be climbed over. You're about halfway when you reach the beaver pond.

as others stated, difficult landing on the bald eagle side. lots of elevation gain. path was clear for us but a pretty good cardio effort.

Not a very good landing at Bald Eagle. Good set of hills to climb.

This is a fairly long and hilly portage. When we crossed it there were a couple trees down as well. The most obnoxious part of the portage though was the landing on Bald Eagle, shallow and rocky and a challenge just to reach the shore.
