Beautiful walk! Yes, the first part of the portage requires you to walk through a narrow crack between two rock shelves and then a deep dip right after that, which makes the experience unique. River views at both landings are gorgeous.

Pretty easy to spot the landing on the east side based on the rock face and border marker. As commented earlier there is a difficult split rock with multiple large steps down that can be difficult to handle solo. Portage is flat, easy to navigate and even has blueberries along the trail. If it weren't for the difficult to navigate rock crevasse this would be ranked much lower. 4/10

I am glad I came through in June because later this summer the low water levels made these landings a muddy mess. This portage can be tough if you aren't tall enough. There is a bottleneck near the east side that can be really tough with a canoe on the shoulders. A little bit of a climb from the west, but the scenery rewards the visit.
