There was a false portage landing located exactly where the portage was noted on my McKenzie and NatGeo maps. The real thing is located a good half mile further NW, on the south bank near the islands in the western part of beaver. The portage climbed steeply most of the way, especially early on. There is a very large tree down right across the portage that is in the perfect spot to be challenging, so I had to shove the canoe and packs under it to get by. Otherwise, not too bad.
