Coming from Slim, this portage wasn't too bad, mostly downhill. It would be a pretty steady climb if you are heading north.

This portage is mismarked on the Slim Lake side of things. It is further South in at the end of Slim than indicated on the maps! If you are headed into Slim lake from Little Loon be prepared. This will be 90% up hill. I think the elevation chart is a bit misleading on this one. Luckily my encounter with this bad boy was the opposite direction. All I could think of was how fortunate I was to be going downhill toward Little Loon (granted the first 10's of rods are uphill). The Little Loon side has some gorgeous trees and plenty or room to organize items. If it were over 200 rods, it'd be a 5 going to Slim. 4/5 to Slim, 3/5 to Little Loon.

Uff da! This was our last portage of the day before camping on Slim. This was the hardest portage I have done. As the previous canoeist mentioned, it is almost all uphill into Slim. Additionally, it had rained the days leading up to our portage, and the portage trail evidently doubles as a runoff stream. Though there were stones and obvious 'steps' made in the trail, it rendered this trail a small waterfall that we had to climb up. Luckily we single portaged it! The Little Loon side is open and perfect for a rest. The Slim side is tight and muddy.
