I love this portage. Mature woods. ups downs are so enjoyable within it.

Busy portage most days. Rocky and long, but not overly challenging.

Previous comments are accurate. Long but pretty flat and easy. A bit of a climb and a small rock field out of West Pike, but really this portage is not bad. I would rather do this than some 70-100 rod portages I've done. A nice walk through the woods when you're going back for the second load!

East-West portages in this area tend to be relatively flat, and this is no exception. Stop at the BRT and take a 1-minute walk (or less) to the south, to a lovely waterfall and bridge.

This portage is long, but not overly challenging. It is worse from the West Pike end as there is a fairly gradual uphill. The landings are rocky and narrow. We passed a large group here that was pretty well spent. Both lakes are scenic, which makes this portage worth it.

a lengthy portage that intersects with the BRT. Make sure to stay on the correct trail :)

Coming out from West Pike there is a prolonged gradual climb. At about the intersection of the Bordr Route Trail it mostly levels off the rest of the way to Clearwater lake. Near the Clearwater landing on the north side of the trail is a lone monsterous white pine. Also the landing on the Clearwater end is a pretty spot. Also the Border Route trail up to Gogebic would be rated 9-10 IMHO. As a side note; there is a shortcut up/down to/from Gogebic from West Pike. It comes out on the south shore of West Pike and this section definitely rates a 10 as it is almost all straight up/down.
