Baker landing was a bit tough to load without scuffing up the boat. Nice mini bay landing on Peterson side, but you have to paddle up 2 separate rapids (after portaging around some). The first one has some decent scratchers, with overhanging trees, but the second one is wide open with almost no concerning rocks. This was during a high water year, but I suspect both are still easily navigable in normal years. Heading south, running them in kevlar is fine, but I wouldn't run the final rapids (skipping the portage) in anything but aluminum/plastic canoes in good light; the water moves pretty quickly and it seems rocky as well, with not much room to maneuver either.

This portage is actually 10 rods as indicated on Voyageur Maps. Very easy, but be careful of the hidden rocks on the Peterson side. 1/10

During my April visit, I ran the rapids easily heading downstream. Careful with a more expensive boat though. But this portage is short and easy.

Portage is much shorter than 34 rods. The Peterson Lake side is shallow with some tricky rocks to get around. Plan on wet feet

There is a small stream off Baker part of this portage. Plan for rapids and and some areas of difficult canoeing.

Rocky landings but, a reasonably flat non-descript trail. If water levels are high, use caution when landing or pushing off above the rapids.
