Portage is rocky on the Portage Bay side and less so on the Vermilion side. Shorter than my Mackenzie map showed. 43 seems about right as listed here. Watch out for the submerged logs and beaver dam on the Vermilion side. Pretty easy portage overall with nice view of the waterfall from Trout into Vermilion.

Short up and down portage right by the river mouth. Much faster than the motorized portage just to the East if you have just canoes and gear.
