I was really surprised to see this on the map. I have been on it several times in the 70's. The family that introduced me to the BWCAW oldest son found it and marked it so the family didn't have to paddle north and then back down to get to Fat Lake. I hope it is better now, but is was easy to miss the trail on it's many turns. It was always bushy and places it was hard to get the canoe through.

IF YOU HAVE A MCKENZIE MAP THIS PORTAGE IS NOT MARKED! ENSURE YOU PEN IT IN BEFORE YOU GO! DO NOT FOLLOW THE RIVER LIKE WE HAD TO!

Without foliage, pretty good trail to follow, but it's easy to see how it would be much more challenging with everything leafed-in. One tough ascent/decent nearer the west end, through some big rocks. Landing on the Slim side not so obvious but the maps have it about right and getting out to look finds the trail quickly. Much more apparent landing on the Fat side. Trail does have some unexpected sharp turns and if you think you are off - back up & look for a turn!

This is an unofficial portage, so it is not maintained. It could be overgrown and difficult to find and navigate.
